Feel your body
Hello! Today my task is to read about physiological reactions to fear of public speaking. Pubic speaking is always a stressfull situation, therefore our physiological reactions allow human being to take effective action- running away or fighting.
I always suffer from an elevation of blood pressure. In order to insure that nutrients oxygen are distributed quickly and any poisons are flushed from the system, the body reacts to stress with an elevated blood pressure. Heat builds up in those areas where major organs are being primed for action- the head, chest and stomach. The body must begin sweating in order not to overheat, and you can often fell the heat pumping more quickly than normal as it maintains the higher blood pressure.
When I perform my speech my face is hot and red as tomato.
Do you feel the same or do you have another physiological reactions to stress?
I see what you mean. I do sometimes feel hot at a stressful moment. But most of the time my body reaction is to start speaking really fast. Apparently, everybody has some issue with their body reaction that they should learn how to deal with.
ОтветитьУдалитьThank you! I absolutly agree with you that it is really important to learn to deal with physiological reactions to fear of public speaking.
УдалитьI thought this was super interesting. I did not know this information about why your body heats up when stressed. I think it is great that you are learning how to deal with it now. I kind of wish we had done something like this in my public speaking class. (Dorothy)
